hello i am a hidden space!
The Gimlet, a refreshing and straightforward cocktail, is said to have maritime origins, with its name potentially stemming from the tool used to bore holes in barrels of spirits. However, its true popularity and association with the lime-infused cocktail began in the early 20th century. The classic Gimlet typically comprises gin and lime cordial, striking a perfect balance between sweet and tart. Its surge in popularity is often attributed to the novel "The Long Goodbye" by Raymond Chandler, where the protagonist, Philip Marlowe, expresses his fondness for the drink. Over the years, the Gimlet has become a timeless classic, cherished for its simplicity and the vibrant citrus kick it brings to the gin-based cocktail repertoire.
hello i am a hidden space!
Here's a simple Gimlet recipe for you to enjoy:
Ingredients:
  • 50 ml London Dry Gin
  • 50 ml Lime Cordial (or 40 ml freshly squeezed lime juice and 10 ml sugar syrup)
  • Ice cubes
  • Lime wheel or twist, for garnish
Instructions:

1. Chill the Glass:

  • Place a coupe glass or a martini glass in the freezer or fill it with ice water to chill while you prepare the ingredients.

2. Combine Ingredients:

  • In a shaker, add the London Dry Gin and lime cordial (or a mix of freshly squeezed lime juice and sugar syrup).

3. Add Ice:

  • Fill the shaker with ice cubes.

4. Shake Well:

  • Shake the ingredients vigorously for about 10-15 seconds. This ensures a well-chilled and well-mixed cocktail.

5. Strain into the Glass:

  • Discard the ice from the chilled glass.
  • Strain the mixture from the shaker into the glass.

6. Garnish & Serve:

  • Garnish with a lime wheel on the rim of the glass or express the oil from a lime twist over the drink by holding it over the glass and giving it a twist to release its aroma.
  • Your Gimlet is now ready to be enjoyed! Sip and savour the crisp and citrusy flavours of this timeless cocktail.
(Feel free to adjust the lime cordial to your liking, depending on how sweet or tart you prefer your Gimlet).
      Cheers!
