In 2014, Dan, a whisky enthusiast and native New Yorker, made a significant life change by relocating to the Cotswolds after a lengthy career in London's finance sector. Seeking solace from the urban grind, he envisioned a life immersed in the serene beauty of the Cotswold countryside, where he could merge his love for whisky with his entrepreneurial aspirations. Surrounded by the picturesque fields of golden barley near his Cotswold residence, Dan had an epiphany: the abundant barley in the region was an untapped resource for distillation. Fuelled by this realisation, he embarked on a bold mission to establish the first distillery in the area, driven by his passion for whisky and the potential of the Cotswold landscape.
Undeterred by the challenges, Dan poured his energy into transforming a neglected site into the Cotswolds Distillery, assembling a skilled team to bring his vision to life. With determination and dedication, the distillery opened its doors in July 2014, signalling the start of an extraordinary journey into the world of craft spirits.
