Midori finds its inspiration in the visionary dreams of Shinjiro Torii, the founder of Suntory, who envisioned creating a vibrant Western liqueur. In 1964, the journey began with the introduction of Hermes Melon Liqueur (the original name for Midori Melon Liqueur) to the Japanese market. During the 1971 IBA Cocktail Championship in Tokyo, U.S. delegates were enthralled by the delectable Hermes Melon Liqueur, sparking strong interest among top American bartenders. Responding to the demand, Midori Melon Liqueur was meticulously consumer-tested and launched in NYC in 1978, marking the arrival of a unique fruity liqueur in the USA.
In the same year of its U.S. debut, Midori Melon Liqueur made its mark as the star ingredient in the award-winning cocktail, "The Universe," which clinched first prize in the United States Bartenders' Guild annual competition. Since its inception, Midori Melon Liqueur has continued to amass an outstanding global reputation for its exceptional quality and remarkable versatility, capturing the hearts and palates of enthusiasts worldwide. Today, it remains a cherished choice among mixologists and cocktail aficionados, embodying a vibrant spirit and delightful flavours that stand the test of time.
